UPMC Italy offers professional opportunities in an international and multicultural setting at IRCCS ISMETT (Istituto Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione), one of the most technologically advanced and state-of-the-art medical centers in Italy, managed by UPMC in partnership with ARNAS Civico Hospital of Palermo and the Ri.MED Foundation.

The IRCCS ISMETT Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program allows to manage a complex population of heart failure patients. Every year, IRCCS ISMETT’s Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery departments treat approximately 1,000 patients with complex cardiac diseases using state-of-the-art and minimally-invasive technologies.

We are seeking for Senior and Junior cardiologists to be part of our team. This position at IRCCS ISMETT offers a considerable opportunity for a young professional interested in studying the most modern cardiovascular diagnostic imaging techniques, and becoming familiar with the decision-making process and clinical management of complex heart disease patients. In such a context, even the expert cardiologist can contribute to the development of the program and find a highly-qualified and welcoming team, and an opportunity to increase his or her professional knowledge. This position also includes rotations at UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center).  The cardiologist participates in the clinical activity of the Cardiology Unit, and is involved in ISMETT’s experimentation and research activities.


  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery recognized in Italy, or equivalent title.
  • Postgraduate diploma in Cardiology recognized in Italy, or equivalent title already obtained or to be obtained during the first quarter of 2023.
  • Enrollment in the professional board.
  • Compliance with mandatory vaccination for the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 infection referred to in art. 4 and 4-ter of Decree-law 44/2021 (without prejudice to unenforceability of the vaccination
    obligation resulting from a confirmed risk for personal health due to specific, documented clinical conditions reported by the general practitioner, in compliance with the memorandum issued by the Italian Ministry of Health on exemptions from the vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 obligation, as provided for by art. 4, para. 2, Decree-law 44/2021).

English proficiency, inclination for research activity, knowledge of main computer applications, strong motivation, flexibility, and stress management, problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills are also instrumental to the role. Good teamwork abilities; flexibility.

The type of contract offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and skills of the selected candidate.

The workplace is Palermo.
