Doctor Jean De Ville De Goyet has joined ISMETT

Doctor Jean De Ville De Goyet has joined ISMETT, and is the new Director of the Pediatric Abdominal Surgery and Liver Transplantation Unit. His presence will strengthen ISMETT’s pediatric surgery and transplantation program, as he is one of the top experts in this field. He has performed more than 500 pediatric transplants, of which, more than 150 from living donors, with a survival rate of 95%, and of 100% with living donor liver transplants.

“I am proud to be part of the ISMETT team,” says Dr. De Ville. “My goal is to offer innovative and highly-specialized pediatric treatments in southern Italy, and not only. Sicily has the capacity to develop a health care network available to most of the patients in the region. Hopefully, we will be able to also attract patients from other Italian regions.”

Dr. Jean De Ville De Goyet was born in Belgium, in 1955, and after getting his university degree in medicine at the Catholic University of Louvain, in Brussels, he gained extensive medical experience abroad. He did his postgraduate specialization in pediatric and general surgery at the Saint Luc University Clinics in Brussels, and the Enfants-Malades in Paris. Since 1988, he has been Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Transplantation at Saint Luc. In 1998, he began working in England, at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, as Director of the Pediatric Transplantation Surgery Department, and as a pediatric surgery consultant. In 2003, he became Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Catholic University of Louvain and at the Saint Luc University Clinics, where he also served as Head of the Department of Transplant, Visceral and Endocrine Surgery. After arriving in Italy, in 2007, he served initially as a consulting surgeon in pediatric hepatobiliary and transplantation surgery, then as Director of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Transplantation at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome. Since 2009, he has also been a professor and Director of the School of Specialization in Pediatric Surgery at the Università Tor Vergata in Rome.
