UPMC Italy

With facilities in Rome, Palermo, and Mirabella Eclano UPMC Italy is the Italian division of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. UPMC Italy operates in the field of patient care, biomedical research and develops new technology solutions, providing support to areas directly and indirectly related to medical and research institutions. UPMC Italy manages and funds various national and international research projects for technology development and training in biotechnology and regenerative medicine.

Our mission is to provide outstanding patient care by shaping the future of health care through clinical innovation, biomedical and clinical services, and investing in training and research. We support a new concept of treatment using scientific, technological, and medical innovation to inspire and promote an accountable model of care, economically efficient and patient-centered.

UPMC is organized into four major operating units:

  • Service Provider, including a comprehensive array of tertiary, community, and regional hospitals; specialty services such as transplantation, women’s health, behavioral health, pediatrics, UPMC CancerCenter, and rehabilitation; home care and retirement living options; contract services, including pharmacy and clinical laboratories; and nearly 3,400 employed physicians and associated practices.
  • Insurance Services, which provide health insurance to companies and their employees in U.S., as well as beneficiaries of government programs such as Medicare and Medical Assistance, integrated workers’ compensation and disability services, and coverage for behavioral health services to Medical Assistance beneficiaries in 35 counties of Pennsylvania.
  • UPMC International, which exports UPMC’s medical expertise and management know-how internationally.
  • UPMC Enterprises, which pursues marketing opportunities and develops strategic partnerships with industry leaders.

UPMC International
UPMC strives to deliver the right care to the right patient, at the right time — every time. This focus extends beyond UPMC’s western Pennsylvania hospital network, community-based services, physicians, and outpatient care. It is a vision that permeates all that UPMC does. To that end, UPMC International shares clinical, technological, and managerial knowledge and expertise with partners across the globe in areas including facility and construction planning, education and training for clinical staff at all levels, clinical program design and customization, and health information technology infrastructure and solutions. UPMC is transforming health care throughout projects in Europe (Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia), Asia (Japan, China, Singapore, Myanmar, India, and Kazakhstan), the Middle East (Qatar), and South America (Brazil, Colombia).
